Song of the North Star
by Master Padraig
Chorus: OH The North star is a-rising
a-rising in the sky
The North Star is embattled, boys and soon our arrows will fly
The torch has passed from glen to glen from mountain to the shore
Oh The north star is a-rising to light our path to war
1)
From the Haven of the Dragon ships Duke Balfar gets the call;
A lanky youth, with torch and horse, to ride from hall to hall.
The king has heard his vassals cry, they're hard pressed in the west.
He sends word to the mighty north to help him face the test
Chorus:
2)
The stalwart youth rides O'r the mount to the Barony Beyond
He tarried not for drink or rest, till he reached the hall of Arn
"House Vassarwulf drop fishing poles, and raise you pole arms high.
Tis time to join up with the duke and ride to Our proud King's side"
Chorus
3)
He rides from them along the coast to the Silver Dragon's hall.
Feral heeds the words and frowns then sends his mighty call.
"Now goodly youth ride straightaway and find my Dragon's claw.
Stop not for rest or sustenance, till you pound each Northern door!"
Chorus
4)
He rides hard-fast and straightaway he enters the Dragon's claw.
He calls to the Dukes in waiting there
"Send up the general roar."
"Find Master Beo, Lucan cries and raise McKinnon all.
Call the Trolls all with their bows. Our King has sent His call."
Chorus
5)
From the Barony called "Of the Bridge" the torch rides for a Keep.
A tower set upon a hill, hard by a river, deep.
The council rises as one man, crying "Death to Eastern foe"
Red and silver banner raised, as they ready for to go
Chorus
6)
From Shire coast to mighty spires the stalwart youth rides on
He rouses Carolingian might, Master , Knight and Fencing Don.
He follows mountain, hidden trails and hamlets in between
Stout woodsman hearken to the cry in leather and Branse-watch green
Chorus
7)
He pauses then upon a hill where a long house stands alone
Jarl Bjorn he meets him there
In hand his mighty bow
At the youths alarming words the Were-sheep all appear
Eric, Thorgirr and Rolf clench swords, the Ulster wolf a spear
Chorus
8)
He crosses over frozen tracts and rocky woodlands deep
Raising warriors in the lands surrounding the Dragon's sleep
Armee Boralis, silver blue, rises with a shout
Gleaming weapons brandished high as they go marching out
Chorus
9)
He rides on cross the trackless woods to a sylvan green estate
Warriors scramble from the pit and bid the youth to wait
Sir Stephen calls to Sir Thorson "Before it is too late"
The Coldwood forces all rise up and march out of the gate
Chorus
10)
He begins a new his homeward leg fresh horse and torch in hand
His youthful voice calling forth the Freeman of the land
Upon the mountain of the Mud a blacksmith gets a grin
He lifts his mighty pole arm high and bellows for his men
Chorus
11)
He rides back thru a village that
lies quiet by a lake
Lachleven folk in blue and green have gathered there to wait
Workmen's tools all put away and warrior's steel drawn
"Our word we give to serve the King or we will be foresworn"
Chorus
12)
Exhausted now the youth rides back and falls at Balfar's feet
Mighty hands do lift him up and rest him in a seat
The Duke he frowns as he looks out and sees the silent hills
His mighty arms are cross his chest and the air lies cool and still
Chorus
13)
He waits until the youth has rest before he calls him in
The Duke he scowls and questions him "Where are the north's stout men?"
The youth he stammers nervously
"I know not where they are"
Then one thousand torches light the hills in the shape of the Northern Star!
Chorus
