My Grandfather was a bowhunter. I never got to see him hunt because he went blind before I was old enough to go. I inherited his bow and arrows and have been happily off target shooting ever since. I mainly practice with the Society for Creative Anachronism. The group has their own shoots, many similar to some of the 3-D shooting I've been reading about. I shoot with a longbow, but am looking into getting a medieval crossbow for various reasons. Someday I will get to try my skills hunting (rabbit hunting sounds very tough, but rewarding!).
In 2002, I took up another rewarding archery sport called Combat Archery. Within the scope of the SCA, there are fighters who also use crossbows during melee battles to shoot "arrows" to kill opponents. This is a BLAST! I have arranged the links to reflect the two different types of archery that I am now involved in. I'll see if I can't get some pictures up soon.
