Gloves - Rebeading Edge

line
  Completed March 2007

Background:
The glove in the picture is one of the gloves for the Princess of the East Kingdom. I do not know who made the gloves (there is a matching set for the Prince). I took the gloves and repaired the beaded edging. This glove is one example of the four.

MATERIALS:
I used Eterna Silk 5m 100% pure Silk Soie Seda mini twist to string the pearls and YLI 16CT 100% Silk Thread doubled for the couching. The "pearls" are manufactured by Blue Moon and are 8mm white round glass pearls.

PROCESS:
The person who put the "pearls" on the gloves before me whipped stiched them on the edge of the cuff. Though it looked good, this made them susceptible to falling off once the string was broken anywhere (as can been seen in the pictures). I started by stringing the pearls and knotting between them so they were a single strand (see picture). Yes, I know there hasn't been a conclusion on whether they knotted between beads/pearls in period, I ws going for durability. Then I attached the strand to the edge of the gloves by couching the strand to the edge. I am hoping this makes the beading more durable for TRHs and if one bead breaks, the whole string doesn't go away and can be more easily repaired in the future.
