Completed March 4, 2007
Background:
Master Lyle Fitzwilliam had a class based on his limp binding website for a reinforced spine limp bound book. I attended and made a book.
MATERIALS:
The materials were provided and included leather (thinner for the cover and thicker for the spine and buttons), 24-lb paper (lovely paper too!), beeswax, 18-strand linen thread, an awl, bone folder, needles and thicker thread for the closure.
PROCESS:
We started with folding and tearing our paper to the correct size. Then we prepared our leather bits, made holes (leather and paper0, waxed the spine piece and began sewing. The full instructions are on Lyle's website. We used 24 sheets to make 12 folios and six holes in the spine.
